Project Coordinator 1. Background
CEPEHRG
has been awarded a two-year grant to implement the Speaking Out Project, an
experiential and transformative grassroots community advocacy program developed
by the MSMGF and CEPEHRG in Ghana and builds and enhances the capacity of
community based organizations in 3 levels: (1) the individual level, by
training in-country advocates; (2) the community organization level, both of
implementation partnerships with local organizations, and participants sharing
take-home messages with their home organizations and fellow advocates; and (3)
at the level of CEPEHRG itself, whose own internal ability to implement and
manage a program such as Speaking Out is enhanced with each activity.
The
program’s ultimate goals are:
1) To
decrease stigma, discrimination and violence directed at gay men and other MSM;
and
2) To
increase access to human rights protection of gay men and other MSM.
·
Coordination and management of the project’s activities, including
support to pilot and provide legal services and referrals;
·
Undertaking research relevant to the Project;
·
Drafting reports on the Project, for internal and external use;
·
Engaging with the project Groups, MSMGF, and other relevant
stakeholders;
·
Overseeing awareness-raising activities, through drafting texts to
updating events;
·
Coordinating trainings and forums for the project
·
Reporting on all activities; and
·
support LGBTI victims to report cases to authorities and
competent organizations and refer them HR organizations
·
Document Human Rights violations/abuses of MSM, with
specific focus of access to healthcare
·
Outreach and educational activities to promote the Human
Rights legal clinic services
·
Hosting one day conferences and forums with key
stakeholders
·
Write and publish a year report showcasing documented cases - to be used
for advocacy work by activists working on behalf of MSM
·
Any other reasonable duties as are required in line with the general
responsibility of the role.
·
Relevant professional experience in human rights, including research and
training;
·
A good first degree in Social Science, Social Work or Development
Studies
·
Professional experience of project management;
·
Experience and knowledge of the MSM and LGBTI community in Ghana;
·
Experience and knowledge on HIV;
·
Demonstrable knowledge of international developments in the Human Rights
of MSM and LGBTI;
·
Excellent organizational skills, including an ability to prioritize work
and manage conflicting deadlines;
·
Ability to work on own initiative, with minimal supervision;
·
Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in English language;
and
·
Competent computer skills.
4. Terms and conditions
This is a full time post to be performed at CEPEHRG offices in Accra, Ghana,
supervised by CEPEHRG Executive Director. The post holder would be expected to
travel occasionally within Ghana and Internationally.
