PROFILE OF THE NEWLY SWORN IN NATIONAL COORDINATOR FOR THE NATIONAL YOUTH AUTHORITY

Mrs Sedina Tamakloe Attionu holds a Masters Degree in International Retail Marketing from the University of Surrey, Guildford, UK.
A pharmacist by profession, Mrs Attionu has over 15 years proven experience in varying roles throughout her career particularly in general management, project planning and management, and in executing marketing activity against financial and marketing return on investment objectives. advocacy with governments and has managed diverse and multi-functional teams with varying skills set.
She hopes that this will enable her co-ordinate and network with the large number of youth groups within the country and harness their energies for accelerated national development.
She also set up and positioned The Pillbox as the first retail pharmacy chain in Ghana. As an entrepreneur, she recognises that entrepreneurship is the heart of any economy and a career with endless possibilities; that an individual’s idea or vision can be converted into reality as long as the individual is focused and willing to take some risk, and has been mentoring young people into developing the mindset for entrepreneurs. As team player, with a “can do” and “hands on” approach to work, she is used to being supportive and enthusiastic and is able working across business and society at all levels to gain acceptance and buy-in.
As a working woman and mother, she has been committed to all issues that affect the welfare of all women and the youth with particular focus on HIV/AIDS and sexual reproductive health. She has been involved in nurturing the Women Commissioner’s of NUGS and GNUPS to accelerate the work of women in leadership at the tertiary level, with the object to mobilise and combat the adverse issues affecting vulnerable young ladies such as abortion and teen-age pregnancy. She has also been involved in the fight against breast cancer with a group called FAB-C, a women’s youth group that advocates and educates on early detection of breast cancer.
She believes that a rights based approach through strengthening the poor and marginalised communities to advocate on their own behalf by helping build the capacity of wider networks and movements they can partner with.
She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Ghana News Agency (GNA). Prior to her appointment, she worked as a private marketing/logistics supply chain specialist.
