… HOMOSEXULAITY ON THE RISE AMONG THE YOUTH

The One Show on VIASAT 1 this week began on a very thought provocative note as it dissected the very taboo subject of homosexuality and its impact on the Ghanaian society. In a move that perhaps will find a place in the annals of television history in Ghana, the show’s producers succeeded in bringing audience closer to the ins and outs of the subject and what it portends for the current generation. In a shocking television first, a reformed homosexual Alhassan Baba Mamudu came under a good number of questioning from host PY Addo Boateng who sought to find out what must have contributed to his past experience as a gay. Mamudu who said he comes from an active Christian upbringing, told PY his encounter with the practice began in the Senior High School he attended which happened to be an all Boys Boarding School, whose name he declined to mention. According to him he was involved in this act for quite some time before a divine intervention from came to his rescue. “When you are into such acts the other gender don’t attract you since you don’t have any feeling for ladies but immediately you see a guy you feel aroused. For me it took the power of the Lord through counseling to get me out from this immoral act”. The reformed homosexual, Mamudu advised those involved in the act to seek effective counseling from religious bodies, to set them free and also advised parents to be careful and pay attention to their wards. Mamudu is part of the organizers of a seminar dubbed “The Guy revolution”. The aim of the seminar is to create awareness in Ghana, particularly among the youth, on how to manage and curb the gradual pervasiveness of homosexuality in the Ghanaian society. THE GUY REVOLUTION is set to come off June 4th 2011 at Pentecost University College. Season 2 of the One Show has so far received rave reviews for the depth of topics discussed and the new grounds it is breaking on Ghanaian television.
