Pupil Teacher Nabbed for Attempted Robbery

A twenty-three- year old Pupil Teacher at the Heaven Gate Academy has been arrested by the Accra Regional Police for attempted robbery, and is currently in police custody.
The suspect, Michael Gamali, a resident of Christian Village, a suburb of Accra, was arrested on Sunday April 17, 2011, at about 4:30pm, when he attempted to rob a foreigner in the company of two others, Alex and Anane.
Briefing The Chronicle in Accra Yesterday, the Accra Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Emmanuel Frank Adufati said on April 16, 2011, the victim, a Philippine national, 26 year old Joselito Tingson, an Information Technologist at Edmark, who works in Togo, arrived in Ghana to visit one of the officials of the company.
According to the Crime Officer, on arrival, the victim, who has been friends with Alex on the Internet via chatting, barely two months ago called to inform him about his visit to Accra.
He said the suspect, Alex, now at large, picked the victim with a taxi cab from 37 Max Mart shopping mall, to his house at Christian village near Kissieman.
After a warm welcome, Alex pretended to visit the washroom, but called the two accomplices, Anane and Gamali to come in and rob the victim.
Superintendent Adufati stated that Alex, who had earlier informed Gamali and Anane that he had a gay friend visitor, advised them to pretend they did not know him, so that they can rob the victim of his money.
The two, Gamali and Anane, immediately entered the room of Alex and attacked him. The victim, who did not know what was going on, kept on pleading, but was forced to undress while they took pictures of him.
Later, Gamali and his accomplice demanded $7000 from the victim, and threatened to put the pictures on the internet if he refused to bring out the money.
The victim pleaded withy them since he did not have that amount of money on him. He was then asked by Gamali to surrender his belongings, which included a laptop, two mobile phones, passport, a camera and a wallet containing $400,12000 naira and GH ¢200.
Joselito Tingson later reported the incident to the Police criminal Investigative Department (CID).
The Crime Officer said, based on the information the police received from the victim, they were able to arrest the suspect, Gamali, who then led the police to retrieve the items from Alex's room. Meanwhile, investigations are on-going to arrest the other accomplices.
